DepEd Advisory No. 453, s. 2011

PHILIPPINE TREASURES

In compliance with DepED Order No. 39, s. 2009, this advisory is issued for the information of DepEd officials and personnel to advise students to watch the showing of GMA-7's 'Philippine Treasures', a special documentary about some of the country’s historical artifacts, most important relics from the Philippines' literally rich pre-colonial past and many others. The documentary is hosted by Ms. Mel Tiangco with reporting by Mariz Umali, Cesar Apolinario, Tina Panganiban-Perez, and John Consulta.

This one of a kind documentray of GMA News and Public Affairs Department is set to air on September 11, 2011, Sunday, at 10:30 P.M. in GMA-7's SNBO. This production aspires to rekindle the Filipinos’ interest on the Philippines’ rich culture and colorful history.

This special feature will include the following topics:

a. Bayan ng Ginto

b. Hikaw ni Lapu-Lapu?

c. Burial Jars

d. Baybayin

e. Status of National Museum

24 Oras' Mel Tiangco and Program Manager Lee Joseph Castel even also travelled all the way to Chicago, USA to see the Golden Tara in person, which considered by some experts as one of the most spectacular finds in Philippine archeology now resides in the Field Museum, Chicago, USA, far from Agusan del Sur where it was originally found.

“She was very small!" Tiangco told GMA News Online about the statue, showing its height with her thumb and index finger. “I thought, ‘What's spectacular about this thing?’", she added.

“Kaunti lang kasi ang sinasabi sa pre-colonial history ng Pilipinas," said Castel. “Wala tayong identity bilang Pilipino, pero pag titignan mo yung mga ninuno natin, defined sila eh. Hindi tayo natagpuang indio ng mga Kastila".
